The Birthday Weekend

It started today with a very excited girlie who is now NINE !!!!! Goodness how time flies. She is now a proud owner of a pair of "Heelys" , truly awful things if you ask me but then again I am not nine and so therefore am unlikely to understand that "Everyone has them".... To celebrate the day we headed out to a local Italian for dinner with friends. We have a Ten Pin Bowling party planned for Friday and Saturday is a family party, my task this evening was to make sure that the party bags were filled and ready to be taken out with us bowling.
Anyhow I thought it would be fun to tell you nine things about my daughter,

* She is a complete girlie girl..Pink, teddy bears, fluffy girlie stuff you get the idea.

* I love the way she has so many Teddy Bears and dolls on her bed that there is literally no room for her. She has been like this since very young and the bears are known as "The Bedtime Gang".

* When she goes horse riding and falls off she gets back on without complaining and continues to ride even if she has tears in her eyes. This is her choice certainly not mine. I want to rush over and take her away from the nasty horse !!!!

* She is a complete thrill seeker. If she is tall enough to get on the ride you can bet she is waiting to go on it. Rollercoasters, Pirate Ships or any other kind of ride that sends Mummy for cover..

* She loves school and always tries super hard. She reminds me of the character Matilda in the Roald Dahl book.

*I had to laugh the time I went to check on her in bed and she had been to the nursery christmas party that day. Here she was lying in bed perfectly with her party hat on. She reminded me of the Queen or a princess. She was three. Wish I could have taken a picture without waking her up.

* She is not afraid to get dirty and go into the garden and help dig the vegetable patch, although she needs her brother to remove any worms or slugs. Isnt that what little brothers are for?

* She is on the School Recycling Commitee, and boy do we take this seriously. I can see her been quite the green activitst when she is older.

* When she is a grown up her plans are to be a Teacher Monday to Friday and a Vet at the weekend. So she cant be afraid of hard work.

Here she is somehwere on this ride, there was no way I would ave gone on there. This was taken in November and a friend of my sisters was brave enough to take her on. He needed a little time afterwards as he felt so ill, she thought it was great.

30 Days:: Day Thirty

Nealry back to where we started. A good way to end the challenge I think. It has been difficult to try and capture what thirty days would be like around here without boring the pants off of you. Perhaps you have already been bored to death. I mean do I take a photograph of Mount Washmore or Mount Ironing that is currently residing in my house? Or the huge amount of dishes waiting for the fairies to come and sort out? NO, you really dont want to see that, you probably have enough of that in your own life without looking at mine...hehehe
However here is a picture of my little cherubs waiting for me to take them to school this morning. Half Term has flown over but we have had lots of fun.

Sneaky Peak

Ok so here is a sneaky peak at what I am working on at the moment. I cant tell you what I am doing as i will spoil a surprise for a certain someone. I have been at the sewing machine this afternoon working on this little project. I dont like to work on more than one at a time, you know I have knitting on the go, a cross stitch chart and also a Rag Rug but you know that when inspiration hits you then you must act. i almost forgot, I picked this little gem up at a local Antique and Collectors fair today. Excuse the bad picture. It is Stewart Crystal and is now sitting by the window in my bedroom.

Childhood Sewing

The half term holidays have gone in a flash. On Monday all three of us will return back to our various schools. I am sad in one way but excited to be back at work. I dont care what I say I love it really (well just a little !!!!)
However today I decided that it was time I made a pathway to my litle craft corner in the bedroom so emabarked on a little tidy, you know the kind you wished you never started !! I came across these little gems tucked safely away in a box.

I made this at school when I would be about 12 or 13. I can remeber looking through Mums fabric stash on the top of the staircase choosing my fabrics. I was very proud of myself. Do you know, I love Log Cabin Quilting to this day. I would love to make a Log Cabin Quilt for my bed. Perhaps one day.

This I also made at about 12 or 13 at school. The Kitty Cat is made using fabric dye and a toothbrush and he (I dont know why but he is a HE)is naurally looking through the window.

I didnt choose to take textiles when it came to my options, I wish I had. It would have been a whole lot more useful that stupid cookery, just ask my long suffering Hubby about my LOVE for cooking....hehehehe

What would you make?

I bought these fabrics a couple of weeks ago. I thought that they were pretty but have no idea what to do with them. I have a fat quarter of each. I would welcome ideas from any of you crafty readers. Come on Mum I dare you to leave a comment, I know that you will read this.

Catching Up

I had a take a little break from blogging as life has been s busy recently. Working part time in a school and then dealing with my own children has taken the energy right out from me. I only work part time but the job can be incredibly demanding and then to come home and start dealing with homework, Brownies, school discos and everything else leaves little time for Mamma.. However the joy of working in a school is that I get to be at home with the children on a regular basis. JOY !! I love been with them and getting the chance to do all of the things with them that we miss out on when we are busy. Things such as Painting, drawing, tons and tons of craft kits that have been building up in the toy cupboard. Dont get me wrong we try and make time fo these things other than in the holidays but the children seem to have a very busy social calendar which leaves little time.

Monday was a day at home, I promised the children that if they left me to tidy around then I would be theirs... So after a quick tidy around we ventured into the kitchen to make cakes for daddy to come home to... Afterwards one of my little helpers decided that he would love to help me tidy his bedroom. This was done whilst Big Sister tackled her room by herself. I think she got much more enjoyment in dusting and polishing than actually doing anything else but hey the thought was there.

Tuesday was a lovely trip into the yorkshire Dales to visit my Sister and her family. Their half term was last week so her eldest was at school but it was so nice and we got to stay later than normal. The drive home was a little scary due to the fog. I was driving down a single car width track in very thick freezing fog. I think that I may have gone back but the roads are so narrow there is no where to turn your car. Anyway nearly two hours later we made it back home ( normally takes just over an hour!!!!)

I decided to finish off the 30 days during the holidays as there seems to be more happening at the moment, so I think I have another eight days or so and I have a couple of pictures on my daughters camera to upload when I find the cable.

What time are you?

You're the time of day right around sunrise, when the sky is still a pale bluish gray. The streets are empty, and the grass and leaves are a little bit sparkly with dew. You are the sound of a few chirpy birds outside the window. You are quiet, peaceful, and contemplative. If you move slowly, it's not because you're lazy – it's because you know there's no reason to rush. You move like a relaxed cat, pausing for deep stretches that make your muscles feel alive. You are long sips of tea or coffee (out of a mug that's held with both hands) that slowly warm your insides just as the sun is brightening the sky.

I quite liked this one.

Little Chef

I had to tell you about my Little Chef. This is my Six year old little boy who has nicknamed himself " Little Chef". His greatest claim is that he has eaten in Rick Steins Bistro in Padstow Cornwall and the person he admires most from the tv is not infact Ben 10, although he is pretty cool, it is yet again Rick Stein. My son loves to cook and bake and when he is after a little special time for himslef he likes to go to the Seafood Deli on our sea front and have a look at the fish. The people who work there will get live crabs and lobsters for him to have a look at. When we were in Cornwall on holiday his Daddy took him deep sea fishing, now picture this.

The boat was full of MEN and afew kiddies but Litle Chef was by far the youngest at aged 5. The sea was rough and the boat was going up and down and lots of the MEN looked rather queesy. His Daddy was thinking "Oh Dear, he aint gonna like this" but no my little fella stood there like a real MAN and took it in his stride. He had no problems with fishing and caught his own fish, he took them off the hooks himself and lets just say that he knew what to do with them as he was going to be bringing them back to shore. He even helped Daddy to gut and clean them. there was a man on the boat who didnt catch a thing and my five year old gave him some of his own catch to take back home.

I think he has a genuine love for cooking and ingredients, he is always in the kitchen looking for was to help and can list the ingredients needed for many of the dishes that we cook. His speciality are "Little Chef Sandwiches" he can make these without any supervision really and gets everything he needs and off he goes. Watch out Rick you have some competition.

Out of the mouths of Babes !!!!

I was at work on Tuesday ( I work in a Primary School as a Teaching Assistant) I was minding my own business whilst putting up a display in the corridor. Walking along the corridor is a child from Y6 and her Teacher who is a supply Teacher. Here is the conversation I heard.

Child "Is she pregnant?"

Teacher " Shhh"

Child "Miss are you pregnant?"

Teacher "Dont be rude, now be quiet"

and off the go into a stock room to get some books. I look around and realise that the dear child was infact speaking to ME !!!! OH MY GOODNESS !!!!! NO I am not pregnant but obviously look it... AAARRRRGGGGGGG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I left work and ran to the supermarket to buy this DVD

Now I can see the funny side of hearing this conversation and the poor supply Teacher looked horrified but to think that I look pregnant when I am not. This needs drastic action so someone please call around and remove the bag of Walkers sensations from my hands. I am going to go and cry now....heheheheheheheheh

No Spend Month

Back in January I posted about the challenge of No Impulse Buying, well the month was a great success and I was very concious of the money that we had to spend. I dont nomally make large purchases, however if you think about the few pounds here for a magazine and a few pounds there they will soon add up. Did anyone join in with this?
The challenge for this month is No Spend Month, so like it says you cant spend any money. Mwaaaaaa How can I do this with a childs 9th Birthday looming? Well she has decided that for her birthday she would like to have her bedroom decorated so all we have to buy is the wallpaper (we use lining paper) and some lilac coloured paint so the actual amount spent should be very little I HOPE... Seriously though, I do agree that spending should be cut down but I am still going to make sure that my daughter has a wonderful birthday. Afterall you are only nine once.
If you want to have a look at the challenge follow the link .
